US President Donald Trump is set to host the leaders of the five Central Asian nations next week, according to announcements from two of the participating countries. The summit is scheduled for November 6 in Washington.
This move represents a significant diplomatic push by the Trump administration to counter the influence of Russia and China in the strategically vital region. The president of Kazakhstan confirmed the date, and Kyrgyzstan’s leader confirmed his attendance.
The White House has not yet officially commented on the plans. The other three states involved—Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan—have also not confirmed their participation.
This American initiative follows a series of similar summits hosted by other major powers. The EU met with the leaders in April, China in June, and Russia just this month, highlighting a competitive scramble for influence.
Central Asia, a vast region rich in natural resources and positioned as a key trade corridor, has become a central arena for this new era of superpower competition, sparked in part by the shifting alliances following the war in Ukraine.
