South Korea has achieved its highest position in the FIFA women’s world rankings in over three years, climbing to 17th place. This advancement follows the national team’s impressive performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where they secured a bronze medal.
Having moved up two spots from its previous ranking, South Korea reached 17th for the first time since June 2023. Among Asian teams, they now stand fourth, trailing Japan in fifth, North Korea in 12th, and Australia in 15th. China, meanwhile, has dropped to 18th in the rankings.
The South Korean team earned their bronze medal by overcoming China 1-0 in the third-place match, after a 2-0 defeat to hosts Japan in the semifinals. This victory not only marked South Korea’s first Asian Games bronze in eight years but also their first win over China in 11 years.
Globally, Spain continues to dominate the rankings, maintaining the top spot, with the United States, Germany, England, and Japan following. FIFA plans to release the final women’s world rankings for the year on December 7.
