Italy has issued a strong condemnation of Russia following a drone attack that reportedly struck a residential building in Romania, injuring two civilians. This incident, which occurred near the Ukrainian border, has heightened concerns about regional security. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called the attack an “extremely serious act,” emphasizing that it took place on Romanian soil, a nation that is part of both the European Union and NATO.

Prime Minister Meloni highlighted the incident as a stark demonstration of how the ongoing conflict continues to jeopardize civilian lives and threaten broader European security. She extended her solidarity to the Romanian government and the affected individuals, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

In response to the attack, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani urged Russia to engage earnestly in pursuing a just and lasting peace. He reiterated Italy’s unwavering support for Romania during these challenging times. Additionally, Italy’s Defence Minister Guido Crosetto condemned the strike, labeling it a dangerous and irresponsible escalation. He emphasized that the security of any NATO and EU member is a collective responsibility for all allies.

The drone strike took place in the Romanian city of Galați, which is in proximity to the Ukrainian border. Romanian authorities confirmed the injury of two people due to the drone hitting a residential structure. This event has further intensified the apprehension among European leaders about the possibility of the conflict extending beyond Ukraine’s borders and impacting neighboring countries. Throughout this period of heightened tension, NATO members have consistently reaffirmed their commitment to collective defense and regional stability.
